Handsome, vital, captivating George Maharis was born in Astoria, NY and started his acting career in off-Broadway theater. After  leaving New York and moving to Los Angeles Maharis appeared in a few television episodes before being cast as “Buzz Murdock”  on the series Route 66. He and fellow co-star Martin Milner, played characters who traveled around the country in a hot Corvette convertible.  Maharis left the show before the end of the third season to pursue a film career but, unfortunately, wasn’t very successful.  He returned to television and was cast in several TV movies such as The Monk, Death in Space and Return to Fantasy Island.
After George Maharis left Route 66 the show lost its appeal and, unfortunately for him, so did he.

Neil Patrick Harris was born in Albuquerque, NM and became well known for his four season run in the title role of Doogie Howser, M.D. After the series ended, Harris made guest appearances in many television series episodes, and  he appeared opposite Tony Shalhoub in a one season series called Stark Raving Mad. He did the voice of “Peter Parker” in the animated series Spider-Man as well as the voice of “Barry Allen/Flash”  in Justice League:  The New Frontier, “The Music Meister” in Batman:  The Brave and the Bold,  “Steve” in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs .  Most recently, Harris plays “Barney Stinson” on How I Met Your Mother.  Watch for him as “Jeff” in the comedy film The Best and the Brightest and the fantasy/horror film Beastly, both to be released later in 2010.
Neil Patrick Harris hosted three award shows in 2009:  The 7^th Annual TV Land Awards, The 63^rd Annual Tony Awards and the 61^st Primetime Emmy Awards. He was the recipient of the 2009 Trevor Life Award. The Trevor Life Award, presented by The Trevor Project, is given each year to an “individual who, through his or her example, support, volunteerism and/or occupation, is an inspiration to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or questioning youth”.   The Trevor Project  is a national crisis and suicide prevention organization helping LGBTQ young people

Major film star, William Holden, was born William Franklin Beedle, Jr. in Santa Monica, CA.  His first starring role was in the film Golden Boy with Barbara Stanwyck as his co-star.  After service in the Air Force, he returned to Hollywood and starred with Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard.   Following Sunset Boulevard,  Holden appeared in a number of hit films including the romantic comedy Born Yesterday, opposite Judy Holliday and  Stalag 17 winning the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of “Sgt. J. J. Sefton” .  Holden again starred with Barbara Stanwyck  in The Executive Suite, with Grace Kelly in The Country Girl, with Jennifer Jones in Love Is A Many Splendored Thing, and Kim Novak in Picnic.  He played opposite Audrey Hepburn in two films:  Sabrina and Paris-When It Sizzles.  Holden starred as “Robert Lomax” in The World of Suzie Wong, as “Shears” in the Academy Award winning film The Bridge on the River Kwai and “Pike Bishop” in the western film The Wild Bunch.
William Holden once said:  “Take any picture you can.  One out of four will be good, one out of ten will be very good and one out of 15 will get you an Academy Award.”  It took a few more than 15 films before he won a Best Actor Oscar but all of them were very good!

Dustin Lee Hoffman, born in Los Angeles, CA began his acting career doing small parts in various television series.  His debut into the big screen world was in a film titled The Tiger Makes Out.  It was followed by his breakthrough role of “Ben Braddock” in The Graduate and  Hoffman’s acting career has flourished ever since.  He was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal as “Ratso” in Midnight Cowboy and won the award for Best Actor in Rain Man and Kramer vs Kramer.
Not willing to be typecast he took on a variety of difficult roles.  Among them  “Ratso” in Midnight Cowboy,  “Raymond Babbitt” in Rain Man, “Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels” in Tootsie, “Captain Hook” in Hook, “Charles Frohman” in the biopic of James Barrie author of Peter Pan in the film Finding Neverland and as 243 year old “Mr. Edward Magorium” in the fantasy film Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium. He will soon appear as “Bernie Focker” in Meet the Fockers Sequel which will be released in July of 2010.
On how he became an actor, Dustin Hoffman said, “I wanted to be a jazz pianist, but I wasn’t good enough.  I got into city college because I didn’t have the grades to get into university.  I took acting because it was a way to get three credits.  I just needed three credits and my friend told me to take acting because it was like gym- nobody fails you.  I took it and that’s literally how I got involved in acting.”  Lucky for us!

Mickey Rourke was born as Phillip Andre Rourke, Jr. in Schenectady, NY and made his film debut in the Steven Spielberg film 1941. Although his role in Body Heat was small, it caught the attention of critics.  He co-starred with Matt Dillon in Rumble Fish which was a follow-up to The Outsiders. Rourke became a “sex symbol” when he starred opposite Kim Basinger in 9 ½ Weeks and received, critical acclaim as alcoholic writer “Henry Chinaski” in Barfly. He was “Harry Angel” with Robert De Niro as “Louis Cyphre” in Angel Heart, “Harley Davidson” in Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, and “Bruiser Stone” in The Rainmaker.  Rourke was nominated for an Academy Award for his lead role as “Randy” in the 2008 film The Wrestler.  He will play alongside Robert Downey, Jr. in Iron Man 2 to be released in May of 2010.

Rhodes Scholar, award winning, and all around talented guy, Kristoffer Kristian Kristofferson was born in Brownsville, TX.  Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down was on his first album and was originally recorded by Ray Stevens.  Others who have recorded it are Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. He wrote Me and Bobby McGee  specifically for Janis Joplin and, although she did record it so did several other music artists. Help Me Make It Through The Night. For the Good Times, I Won’t Mention It Again, and Please Don’t Tell Me How the Story Ends, are just a few of the songs written by Kristofferson. 
He also acted in dozens of films.  His debut film was The Last Movie.  Others were Convoy, A Star Is Born with Barbara Streisand, Semi-Tough with Burt Reynolds, No Place to Hide with Drew Barrymore, Payback starring Mel Gibson, and Blade co-starring Wesley Snipes.  Kristofferson and Val Kilmer will co-star in the film Provinces of Night which will be released sometime in2010. Kristofferson has recorded more than twenty albums.  The latest one Closer To The Bone was released in September of 2009.
