Robert Mitchum on a bike ride by the ocean

Robert Charles Durman Mitchum was born in Bridgeport CN and named by film critic Roger Ebert as his favorite actor and one of the greatest actors of all time.  He was cast as “Lt. Bill Walker in The Story of G. I. Joe. The film was instantly a commercial and critical success and launched Mitchum’s career.  Mitchum would become known for his roles in gangster and crime films.  He appeared in more than a hundred films.  Some of the best known were:  Blood on the Moon, The Red Pony, The Big Steal, Track of the Cat, Thunder Road, The Night of the Hunter, Home from the Hill, Cape Fear, The Longest Day and two films, Farewell My Lovely and The Big Sleep, based on author Raymond Chandler’s private detective “Phillip Marlowe”.  Mitchum  starred in three television mini-series: The Winds of War, North and South, and War and Remembrance.
A lesser known talent was his singing and composing ability.  Film makers used Mitchum’s own singing voice rather than hiring a professional singer in films such as Rachel and the Stranger, River of No Return and the Night of the Hunter.
Robert Mitchum was an actor of tremendous ability whose acting abilities were underrated and underused.  He hid his talent under an air of disinterest.  Mitchum said, “Sometimes, I think I ought to go back and do at least one thing really well.  But, again, indolence will probably cause me to hesitate about finding a place to start.  Part of that indolence perhaps is due to shyness because I’m a natural hermit.  I’ve been in constant motion of escape all my life.  I’ve never really found the right corner to hide in.” A  sad commentary from a man with so much talent.

William West Anderson, born in Walla Walla, WA will always be remembered for his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman.  Before becoming the beloved superhero West made one-time appearances in dozens of television series episodes.  The Batman series ran for three seasons and was a big hit, however when the series ended West had trouble getting other roles because he was so associated with the character he played.  After its initial success the Batman series was brought back as The New Adventures of Batman but ran for only one season.  West appeared in his signature role on Legends of the Superheroes and as the voice of Batman in several animated versions.
Adam West said, regarding his typecasting as Batman, “It was inescapable.  I’d just land something substantial, something I like or a good career move.  Then some dinosaur would rear up and say, ‘But the audience will think of him as Batman’.  It was formidable.  It was there like a brick wall.”

Shirtless Van Williams-Beautiful View Within a Beautiful View

Van Zandt Jarvis Williams was born in Fort Worth, TX and was mainly cast in dramatic television roles.  He played the lead character, “Kenny Madison” on Bourbon Street Beat, PI “Ken Madison” on Surfside 6, “Pat Burns” on The Tycoon, and “The Green Hornet/Britt Reid” on The Green Hornet with co-star, Bruce Lee, as “Kato.  He also starred as “Steve Andrews” on the adventure series Westwind.
During his time on The Green Hornet, Van Williams pressured producers to give more screen time to Bruce Lee in an attempt to both help his friend and help the show survive by featuring the most popular member of the cast.  The producers, however, refused because they didn’t want to take any attention from the star, especially to a “non-white” actor.  Seems they made a pretty big mistake (aside from being small-minded) because the show lasted only one season and we all know about the tremendous success of Bruce Lee.
