Bret Michael Sychak, lead singer of metal band Poison, was born in Butler, PA.  Poison and bands like it were called glam metal or hair metal because of the penchant of band members to have their long hair in a backcombed style.  Poison was one of the 80’s biggest metal bands in the world having several multi-million selling albums including Look What the Cat Dragged In, Open Up and Say…Ahh!,  Power to the People and Poison’d!.  Michaels also released five solo albums:  A Letter from Death Row, Ballads, Blues & Stories, Songs of Life, Freedom of Sound and Rock My World. He was featured on the reality show Rock of Love for three seasons.  Twenty-five girls competed for a chance to spend time with Michaels on a “date”
Together with actor Charlie Sheen, Bret Michaels established a film production company called Sheen/Michaels Entertainmant.  The company produced the movies A Letter from Death Row, No Code of Conduct, which starred Sheen, Free Money starring Marlon Brando and Mira Sorvino and a surfer movie call In God’s Hands.

Bruce Willis’ four season run as David Addison on the TV series Moonlighting established his acting career.  Some of his better known films are The Sixth Sense, Armageddon, The Whole Nine Yards, followed by The Whole Ten Yards, and Hostage.  He is probably best known as John McClane in the Die Hard series of films.  The first Die Hard came out in 1988, followed by Die Hard 2 (1990), Die Hard With A Vengeance (1995), and Live Free or Die Hard (2007).  The latest one, A Good Day to Die Hard, is due to be released February 14, 2013. Willis also makes a cameo appearance in the latest Sylvester Stallone film The Expendables 2.

Val Edward Kilmer was born in Los Angeles, CA and made his debut in the starring role of the comedy film Top Secret, followed by another comedy, Real Genius then landed the role of “Ice Man” in the blockbuster film Top Gun.  Kilmer was “William Bonney’ in Billy the Kid, “Jim Morrison”  in The Doors,  “Doc Holliday” in Tombstone, “Batman” in Batman Forever, and “Virgil” in Hardwired.  He has several films coming out in 2010.  Fake Identity will be released in June, 2010.  Others include Mr. Nobody, Provinces of Night, The Irishman and Georgia.

Yul Brynner won the Best Actor Award for his portrayal of “King Mongcut of Siam” in the film version of The King and I.  He also played the role more than 4,500 time on stage.  In addition to playing “King Mongcut he starred in The Brothers Karamazov, co-starred with Ingrid Bergman in Anastasia,  and with Joanne Woodward in The Sound and the Fury.  He appeared in epic films such as Solomon and Sheba, and The Ten Commandments and the epic westerns The Magnificent Seven and Return of the Seven.

Dennis William Quaid hails from Houston, TX and has appeared in over 60 films.  Breaking Away was his first major film and his role as “Gordon Cooper” in the film about the original US Mercury 7 astronauts, The Right Stuff, earned him excellent reviews.  His portrayal of Jerry Lee Lewis in Great Balls of Fire! also won him critical acclaim.  Dennis Quaid played “Doc Holliday” in Wyatt Earp and “Frank Whitaker” in Far From Heaven which co-starred Julianne Moore.  He has also starred in The Parent Trap, Yours, Mine and Ours, and Smart People opposite Sarah Jessica Parker.  Quaid will appear in the fantasy/horror film, Legion, to be released in January of 2010. In a film titled The Special Relationship, he will play the role of ex-President Bill Clinton, with Michael Sheen as Tony Blair, Helen McCory as Cherie Blair and Hope Davis as Hillary Clinton. The film won’t be released until 2011.

In addition to being a fine actor Dennis Quaid is also a musician and wrote songs for three of his films:  The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, Tough Enough and The Big Easy. Handsome, vital, captivating George Maharis was born in Astoria, NY and started his acting career in off-Broadway theater. After  leaving New York and moving to Los Angeles Maharis appeared in a few television episodes before being cast as “Buzz Murdock”  on the series Route 66. He and fellow co-star Martin Milner, played characters who traveled around the country in a hot Corvette convertible.  Maharis left the show before the end of the third season to pursue a film career but, unfortunately, wasn’t very successful.  He returned to television and was cast in several TV movies such as The Monk, Death in Space and Return to Fantasy Island.
After George Maharis left Route 66 the show lost its appeal and, unfortunately for him, so did he.

Dean, born James Byron Dean, was certainly a rebel in the context of the time he lived in.  He was sensual and appeared dark and sometimes broody. Yet there was a hint to child-like mischief about him. Rebel Without A Cause was Dean’s breakthrough film, and what a powerhouse film it was. Prior to Rebel, Dean starred as Caleb Trask in East of Eden and followed Rebel with the film Giant which starred Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor.  It would be the last film the talented star would make.
Following the completion of Giant, Dean and his mechanic Rolf Wutherich were driving Dean’s customized Porsch 550 Spyder when a car being driven in the opposite direction by Donald Turnipseed  crossed into Dean’s path causing an almost head-on collision.  Dean was pronounced dead at arrival at  Paso Robles War Memorial Hospital.  Contrary to persistent rumor, Dean was not speeding but was travelling at approximately 55mph.

James Dean was once quoted as saying:  “ Dream as if you’ll live forever.  Live as if you’ll die today”.  For fans his “today” came much too soon.
